GOAL Statement

The past few weeks have been nothing short of a national nightmare for this country. To echo literally everyone in the United States right now, the events have shone a blinding light on the stark divide between multiple factions that are looking at the same screen but somehow seeing two very different movies. Political strife has never been more ferocious and dangerous; and tensions are higher than they have ever been in our collective lifetimes. If the United States is to persevere and remain recognizable, there is some serious work to be done.

This includes from the Second Amendment’s traditional enemies, as well as its “friends,” especially those in the current administration. In the recent tragic death of a protester, certain members of the White House and the Cabinet have been quick to articulate non-existing restrictions on the Second Amendment. This is a tactic we usually see used by anti-gun groups to justify gun control measures, not used by “friends” desperately reacting in the aftermath of a tragedy.

The current administration was elected with significant help of gun owners only to have them turn on us when politically convenient. Gun Owners’ Action League has been consistent throughout our existence that lawful Americans have the right to keep and bear arms anywhere they have the right to be. To have high ranking officials tell the world anything different is a devastating blow to freedom-loving Americans countrywide.

To be clear, GOAL condemns the actions of anyone who is actively confronting, hindering or attacking law enforcement in the lawful performance of their duties. Any citizen, armed or otherwise, should never unnecessarily seek out conflict.  If one arises beyond our control it is in everyone’s best interest that we remain a calming presence and when possible and make every effort to deescalate any confrontation when it is safe to do so. However, regardless of the intentions of any individual protestor, no one should be treated as a threat for exercising their civil rights and simply possessing a gun on their person. To express any other sentiment is dangerous and betrays the Second Amendment civil rights of all American citizens.
