WRITING LETTERS/EMAILS

To make your letter as effective as possible, just follow these four general guidelines:

1. Make it personal: Form letters and emails are very ineffective. Legislators look at it as: If you can't even take a few minutes to write them a personal note or email, it obviously just isn't that important to you.
   
2. Be to the point: Letters and emails don't have to be a technical dissertation. Just let them know how it will  affect you and your family.
   
3. Be polite: Regardless of how outraged you are, everything you say, and the way you say it, reflects on the 2A community as a whole.
4. Offer to be a resource: Legislators deal with bills ranging from civil rights to naming the State cookie. They can't know everything and that is where we can offer help.
   
5. Request an answer: Ask the legislator to tell you how they intend to vote on the bill.

RE: HD.4420 An Act Modernizing Firearm Laws

Dear Representative,

I am writing to you today to ask that you vigorously oppose HD.4420. I have many concerns with this legislation as it is likely the greatest attack on civil rights I have ever witnessed from a legislative leader in this century. (Feel free to make it your own words.)

Now pick a few points from GOAL's review and add them to the letter.

Thank you for your attention to this critical bill that will make Massachusetts a much more dangerous place to live.
