RESTORE PUBLIC PLACES FREEDOM IN YOUR TOWN
Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024 includes a provision allowing a municipality to exempt their administrative buildings from the so-called “sensitive places” restrictions in Ch. 135 of the Acts of 2024.
The first step GOAL would recommend would be to search your town or city’s website for the municipal citizen’s petition process or speak with your town or city clerk about the process. It usually involves a petition requiring some number of signatures from your fellow citizens.

Another route to follow: if you have a friendly local politician who would be willing to file a proposal for you with the Board of Selectmen, City Council or bring to town meeting, lobby that politician. Explain you reasoning and tell them why Boston shouldn’t be able to tell them what they can and cannot allow in their town buildings. Additionally, speak with your local police chief and try and get them on board to endorse the proposal, it will go a long way toward convincing your fellow citizens to get on board.
With all that being said, below is our sample language. Similar language has been used by a number of towns like Berkely, Charlton, and Holden, to get their towns exempt:
Exclusion of Administrative Buildings and Properties as Prohibited Areas under Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024, An Act Modernizing Firearm Laws.
To see if the Town will vote to exclude, as provided for in Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024, its municipal administrative buildings and Town property from being defined as "prohibited areas" under Chapter 269, Section 10, thereby allowing possession of a firearm, loaded or unloaded, as defined in Section 121 of Chapter 140 in said buildings, or take any other action relative thereto.
Good luck and please reach out if you need assistance down the line to get this done for your town!
