NH Attorney General Leads 25 States Against MA Gun Laws

Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) is beyond pleased to hear that the New Hampshire Attorney General is seeking clarification of the Commonwealth’s new gun laws for non-residents in an Amicus Curiae brief regarding the petition for a writ of certiorari in the Commonwealth v. Marquis case. GOAL has also submitted a brief in this case as well.

Non-residents of Massachusetts who may enter the Commonwealth for any reason should never face criminal prosecution for mere possession of a firearm without a license. Last May GOAL and the National Rifle Association met with the New Hampshire Attorney General's office to warn them of the serious dangers of prosecution facing New Hampshire citizens who may be coming to MA to hunt or just travel through.

The danger is compounded as there has been so much confusion and misinformation disseminated from the Commonwealth concerning non-residents coming to MA with firearms for lawful purposes. The:

- MA State Legislature;

- MA Governor’s Office;

- MA Supreme Judicial Court;

- MA Attorney General;

- MA District Attorneys;

- Executive Office of Public Safety and Security

- Department of Fisheries and Wildlife;

- Department of Conservation and Recreation;

- Firearms Records Bureau;

- Environmental Police;

- State Police; and;

- Local Police;

all have failed to provide reliable information about what *our* new laws mean for residents and non-residents who just want to exercise a civil right without facing prison. We hope the Supreme Court takes up this important matter and gets us all the answers we deserve, because we all know we won’t be getting them from Massachusetts.
