"The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense in the home."

Latest Report from Mass DPH on Firearm Assaults Released

The latest Injury Surveillance Report concerning Hospital Discharges has just been released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The 2005 report clearly shows the continued disastrous affects of the Worst in the Nation gun laws passed in 1998.

The chart below reflects the latest results. The new report shows yet another increase in firearm related assaults, over 27% in just one year from 2004 to 2005. This brings the total increase in firearm related assaults resulting in hospital discharges up to 162% since the 1998 laws were passed!

This report is yet another example of why we must continue to work to repeal and reform the Massachusetts gun laws in an effort to protect our fellow citizens.
