GOAL Retains Legal Team to Help Free Kyle Culotta

Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) has retained a legal team of top Massachusetts criminal attorneys and Second Amendment attorneys to help defend and free Kyle Wayne Culotta. Attorney Dan Hagan and his team out of Springfield will be representing Kyle moving forward.

“While we are still gathering all the facts and reviewing the court record, what we know so far still raises serious concerns,’ said Attorney Hagan. “We are treating this as an urgent and high-stakes matter. I’ve assembled the strongest possible legal team, including Attorneys Dan Kelly and Kyle DeSousa, and we intend to pursue every legal avenue aggressively to protect Mr. Culotta’s rights and restore his freedom.”

Kyle was arrested on June 24th, 2025 when he was pulled over for an expired vehicle registration. Upon their search of the vehicle, the police found a number of firearms, including a so-called “large capacity” handgun, all of which are illegal to possess in the Commonwealth without a license to carry.

Kyle was initially represented by a public defender and has been detained since his arrest without bail under the Commonwealth’s dangerousness statute for simply possessing his (until he crossed into Massachusetts) legally-owned firearms. An Air Force veteran, Kyle does not appear to have a criminal record and was moving north to be with family as he and his fiancé have been going through difficult financial times.

“From top to bottom this case is an affront to the Constitution on many levels,” said Jim Wallace, Executive Director of GOAL. “The fact that an innocent man is being detained without bail by the Commonwealth for simply exercising a constitutionally protected civil right is outrageous. Hopefully with this new legal team and GOAL’s help we can help free Kyle while also addressing the threat that the Commonwealth’s gun laws pose to law-abiding citizens.”
