FAKE NEWS on SUPREME COURT LICENSING "DECISION"
GOAL has received a lot of inquiries about a supposed 9 – 0 Supreme Court decision regarding firearm licensing. To be very clear: There has been no such decision from the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) this term. If this case was real, every 2A organization would be screaming about it from the roof tops.
The social media posts and videos everyone is referring to are produced using AI and have no basis in reality. This all seems to be stemming from a Youtube channel: “Legal Firepower.” After a quick review of some other videos, it is clear that the entire YouTube channel is full of videos with incorrect and intentionally misleading information.
The particular video everyone seems to be excited about is very loosely referring to NYSRPA v. Bruen, which was granted cert by the Supreme Court on April 26th, 2021 and the opinion was issued on June 23rd, 2022. Bruen was a 6-3 ruling, the case impacted all 50 states ensuring that each has a “shall issue” licensing scheme and established the new standard of review for 2A cases using “text, history and tradition” rather than the previous interest-balancing tests used by many courts.
