In
Home Accident Statistics
The latest National Safety Council information on in
home accidental deaths of people from all age groups clearly shows
us that if we keep the children in the house they are still…
-
16.5 times
more likely to
die in their home from a fall
-
14.5 times
likely to die in
their home from poison solids
-
5 times
likely to die in
their home from a fire
-
3.5 times
likely to die in
their home from suffocation
-
1.5 times
likely to die in
their home from drowning
than they are to die from a firearm related accident in their
home!!! Keep in mind that these in home firearm accident records do
not differentiate accidents that occur with illegally owned guns versus
legally owned. This being the case, the numbers would be lowered
substantially if the deaths attributed to crack houses, gang members,
etc. were excluded.
All of the statistics used to create
the following comparisons were taken from the National Safety
Council's Injury Facts, 2000 Edition.
