GOAL Named 2007 Outstanding State Association of the Year by the National Rifle Association

On Thursday, January 10, 2008 Gun Owners’ Action League received an email from Elizabeth M. Bush (National Manager Clubs, Associations & Range Services for the National Rifle Association) with the following announcement:

“I would like to inform you that the Clubs & Associations Awards committee has selected the Gun Owners’ Action League as the winner of the 2007 NRA Outstanding State Association Award.   You will be contacted in the upcoming months with more detail on the Awards Ceremony to take place in September at the next NRA Board Meeting in Arlington, Va."

“On behalf of our members, board of directors and staff I would like to thank the National Rifle Association for this honor,” said Jim Wallace Executive Director of Gun Owners Action League. “GOAL is doing battle every day in what has become known as ‘The Second Amendment Battle Ground State. It is the greatest irony of human history that the very state that launched the fight for freedom using civilian arms has become a new battle ground. Tragically our fight now is to protect the very right that enabled our forefathers to win that freedom. This award is an important symbol to our members that the nation recognizes our struggle here.”

GOAL would like to thank our members for continuing to support our organization and the fights that still lie ahead.

The Outstanding State Association Award is presented in honor of a State Association’s effectiveness in carrying out the purposes and objectives of the National Rifle Association in the state or territory for which the association is organized. The winning association will be selected based on the following:

  • Effectiveness of membership services/growth activities
  • Quality and effectiveness of newsletter/communications vehicles
  • Programs for competitive shooters, hunters and other shooting sports enthusiasts
  • Educations, training, and public service programs
  • Legislative activity/political action groups
  • Public relations/outreach efforts
  • Youth programs
