"The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self defense in the home."

Dear GOAL Members,

Twenty-five dollars is not likely to buy you much this summer. You couldn’t fill your gas tank for that much money or buy enough groceries for a barbecue next weekend.

But for every $25 contribution you make to GOAL this summer, you will earn an entry to receive a very special rifle for your personal firearm collection. This Smith & Wesson M&P15FT is highly sought-after and has been laser engraved with a GOAL logo on the frame. If you were to buy it new, it would cost over $1,700 retail.

If that’s not enough reason to make a donation this summer, here are a few more reasons to support GOAL.

This summer marks the tenth anniversary of the passage of the “Worst in the Nation Gun Laws.” On July 23, 1998 Acting Governor Paul Cellucci (recent attendee of a 2008 fundraiser for Stop Handgun Violence) signed into law Chapter 180 of the Acts of 1998, setting into motion what is now called the “Decade of Disaster”.

This legislation was one of the greatest assaults on personal freedom and public safety in modern times. It’s also proof that GOAL and its members were correct in our prediction of disaster back when the law was passed.

The Worst in the Nation Gun Laws have reduced the number of lawful gun owners in Massachusetts from 1.5 million to 240,000. Although supporters said the law would reduce gun-related crimes, the opposite is true. The state’s own agencies have told us that gun-related homicides are up nearly 70% and gun-related assaults have increased nearly 300% since the passage of Chapter 180.

Now, even with a mountain of evidence that gun control is a failed social experiment, the supporters of civilian disarmament are again gaining power.

We can’t allow that to continue.

Just recently, Governor Deval Patrick rewarded Cheryl Jacques with a state court judgeship. Judges are supposed to protect our constitutional rights. But Cheryl Jacques has a track record of doing just the opposite. In fact, she wrote most of the provisions that ultimately made their way into Chapter 180 back in 1998, when she served as a member of the state Senate.

Do you want the author of the Worst in the Nation Gun Laws to decide how they will be enforced against you?

It has taken some time, but Governor Patrick’s true motives for our gun laws are starting to become clear. In a 2007 press release from the governor himself, John Rosenthal of Stop Handgun Violence praised Deval Patrick’s latest gun control initiative. He said, I support and applaud the Governor's anti-gun trafficking bill.”

Now Deval Patrick has endorsed a presidential candidate who has publicly scorned Americans for “clinging to our guns.” It is clear that certain public officials are not satisfied with a “Decade of Disaster.”

What’s next from the governor’s office?

It is also clear that they have no intention of stopping their attack on the civil rights of lawful citizens. That is why I am asking for your help this summer to aid GOAL in our mission to educate the public on their true intentions.

Remember, for every $25 donation to GOAL during this offer, you will receive an entry for a very special rifle.

Please help GOAL expose the truth that the Massachusetts Gun Control Act of 1998 has been a civil rights and public safety disaster – a “Decade of Disaster”.

Thank you.

Sincerely

James L. Wallace

Executive Director
